2016 News and Events

MASL Thanks Melora Norman for sharing her complete report of the ALA Mid-Winter 2016 conference in Boston.

"There was much to interest school librarians at the annual Midwinter meeting of the 2016 American Library Association recently held in Boston."

ALA Breakfast in Boston with the author Ruta Sepetys  to promote and discuss her book Salt to the Sea (Mid-Winter conference January 2016).  If you look closely, you'll see Maine represented by MASL board members Tina Taggart, Julie Williams, and Peggy Becksvoort.

"Three of us were able to attend the Perma-Bound breakfast that featured author Ruta Sepetys and her newest book, Salt to the Sea. Meeting authors and hearing their stories is another of the meaningful events at any ALA conference. This breakfast gave the invitees an opportunity to hear the story behind the novel. Author Sepetys encouraged us to track down our relatives with stories of hardships and gather them for future generations. I encourage middle and high schools to shelve Salt to the Sea in their historical fiction sections and to share it with both social studies and ELA teachers. It sheds a heartbreaking look at an unknown part of the end of WWII. You will want to read it." - Peggy Beckvoort
