MASL President Tina Taggart and Support Staff Award winner Charlotte Violette
SUPPORT STAFF OF THE YEAR AWARD

The Maine Association of School Libraries (MASL) is pleased to announce the Charlotte Violette has been chosen for the School Library Support Staff of the Year. Charlotte is the library educational technician at Piscataquis Community Elementary School (pre-K-6) in SAD 4. The MASL Library Support Staff Award is intended to honor Educational Technicians who have made a significant contribution to their local school library media program and/or have demonstrated commitment to those efforts at the state level. The nomination documents praise her enthusiasm and ingenuity in the library. When faced with a budgetary challenge, Charlotte successfully wrote a grant and received $3000 from author James Patterson to purchase books and a scanner for the school library. She encourages the use of technology and internet resources in the library. The PCES library was automated recently with the Evergreen database software. She frequently attends the meeting of the Maine Balsam Consortium– the group responsible for the Evergreen software. Charlotte is also the assistant technology lead person for the school and is well versed in sorting out technological challenges. She works closely with teachers in planning library lessons that mirror what is being taught in the classroom as well as providing library materials that support those lessons. Charlotte makes sure that the PCES library is a warm, welcoming place for students and staff. Charlotte was presented her award at the MASL Symposium on April 30.
