Administrator of the Year

The Maine Association of School Libraries (MASL) believes that recognizing the support of school administrators in the lives of school libraries promotes best practices within a school and acknowledges that this vital support is crucial for school library programs to succeed.

The MASL School Administrator Award seeks to honor administrators who, through individual leadership and sustained effort, have made worthy contributions to the operations of effective school library media services within the educational program. The award is also intended to recognize the responsible and influential role of the school administrator in developing successful school library media programs, and to stimulate planning, implementation and support of school library media services.

The award includes a plaque and a cash donation to the recipient's school library media program, made in the name of the recipient. The award is presented annually at both the recipient's school/district and at an appropriate MASL conference or event.

Eligibility

  1. Any school administrator currently employed in the state of Maine
  2. Nominations must be made by a current MASL member

Deadline for nominations: February 15th

Procedure for Nomination

Email completed nomination form and documentation to: awards@maslibraries.org *Please do not mail*

All applications received will be acknowledged by an email confirmation.

Once the nominations deadline has passed, all nominations will be reviewed by the MASL past president. Their unnamed recommendation will be sent to the MASL Board for approval.  After the Board has approved the recommendation, the nominator of the winning candidate will be contacted to arrange presentation of the Award at an appropriate school/district event (this may include surprising the winner if appropriate).  The MASL Board will also honor the winner at an appropriate MASL event after the initial presentation in his or her school district.

Although the award is presented annually and the major emphasis is for contributions made during the previous school year, earlier and continuing activities should be included in the recommendations and will be considered in the adjudicating process.

MASL also reserves the right to forgo presenting the MASL Administrator Award in years when there are no candidates or when the MASL Board determines that no candidate submission meets the requirements of the MASL Administrator Award.
